About the Role
Teslasuit, a global leader in advanced wearable technology, is seeking a hands-on and visionary Textile Industrial Designer to lead the development of high-performance smart garments, including next-generation suits and gloves. This role blends creative design, technical textile engineering, and leadership in R&D, with responsibilities spanning hands-on prototyping, production support, and innovation for future products. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to integrate textiles with electronics, shaping wearable solutions that interface directly with the human body.
Key Responsibilities
- Core Textile Design & Development
- Lead textile R&D efforts for wearable electronics products
- Drive innovation in textile design aligned with product roadmaps
- Manage and mentor the textile R&D team, assigning tasks, setting timelines, and monitoring deliverables
- Prototyping & Testing
- Participate directly in applied textile development and prototype creation
- Use textile CAD tools and virtual prototyping software to simulate fit and fabric behavior
- Implement best practices for prototyping, testing, and transitioning designs to production
- Apply DFM principles to ensure scalable, repeatable manufacturing processes
- Supplier and Manufacturing Interface
- Manage contractor and supplier relationships, participate in vendor qualification, and support ramp-up to pilot and series production
- Oversee production of Teslasuit products, ensuring alignment with design and quality standards
- Documentation
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, BOMs, test plans, version control records, and manufacturing packages
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with electronics, mechanical, software and quality teams to ensure cohesive product integration
- Provide input into system architecture for modularity and manufacturability
- Regulatory Compliance
- Collaborate with quality and regulatory teams to ensure textile designs meet medical standards, including documentation for FDA submissions and ISO 13485 compliance.
- Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and refine textile development processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability
- Implement feedback from production, testing, and user experience to improve designs and methods
- Introduce new tools, materials, and technologies into the R&D workflow
- Foster a culture of experimentation, documentation, and iterative improvement within the textile team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Design, Fashion Technology, Industrial Design, or related field
- Proficiency in textile CAD software (e.g., Lectra, Gemini, Clo3D) and virtual prototyping
- Ability to simulate fit and fabric behavior virtually (Clo3D or equivalent)
- Expertise in garment and softgoods prototyping, including functional prototypes for testing
- In-depth understanding of functional textiles, stretch fabrics, coated textiles, and composite materials
- Skilled in advanced sewing and construction techniques (flatlock, overlock, bonding, taping, seamless joining)
- Experience operating and maintaining textile equipment (e.g., flatbed machines, ultrasonic welders, lamination presses)
- Competence in preparing production-ready files and optimizing material usage
- Understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing): Ability to translate prototypes into scalable, repeatable manufacturing processes
- Strong command of written and spoken English (Level C1+)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- European Union or United Kingdom citizenship, permanent residency, or right to work
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Technical Textiles, Smart Textiles, or Product Development
- Additional certifications or coursework in softgoods prototyping, technical garment construction, material science, or wearable technologies
- Familiarity with smart/technical textiles and sensor integration
- Experience in transitioning prototypes to series manufacturing
- Cross-functional team leadership experience
Working Conditions
- This position is located in Prague, Czech Republic and requires regular travel to our Prague R&D office
- Manual dexterity and ability to work in a prototyping lab and production environment (e.g., operating sewing machinery, cutting tables, etc.) are required
- A willingness to travel occasionally to production facilities or partner sites (domestic and international)
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours may be necessary for critical issues
